Aircraft apparently hit a cable attached to a telecommunications tower before it went down. Witnesses reported hearing a loud popping noise before the crash. Plane was taking off in rainy, foggy conditions. It’s believed that the pilot did not see the tower or the guide wires as they were obscured by fog

Witnesses who were aboard a boat on Boca Ciega Bay told deputies that they heard a "popping" sound in the sky. When they looked up they saw the plane, which appeared to be about 300 feet in the air, take a nose dive into the water.
